Finally, after years without any updates. Animal Crossing New Horizons is getting a new update, it’s unfortunately not a new game, but still an update means new content.
This new update is for the Nintendo Switch 1 system and the Nintendo Switch 2 systems.
This new update improves the graphics on the Switch 2 and includes expanded online play.
What do both systems get?
Slumber Island now allows players to have multiple islands. So now you can revisit more than one of your islands.
There is a new resort hotel! Located on the pier run by Kapp’n family. You can decorate guest rooms and included with this feature is a new ticket system which you can use to buy items from the souvenir shop.
Expanded storage! FINALLY. Home storage has been increased, it is now 9,000 items and you can store trees, flowers and shrubs.
New collaborations. Collaborations that will be added into the game include new themed items, amiibo functionality, collabs with LEGO, Splatoon and The Legend of Zelda.
Resetti Reset Service. Yes, you heard me right, Resetti has made a comeback, and no, you aren’t going to be shouted at, he’s going to help you with his new service that allows him to tidy up your island with excess items relocated to storage. How helpful!
Quality of Life Improvements. These include players being able to batch craft + craft from their home.
Retro Nintendo games back. In the game you can get consoles in which you will now be able to play some of the classic NES and Game Boy games. This was a feature that has been done in a few of the past Animal Crossing games.
New Villagers. Now there is a lot of villagers already in the game, but the more the merrier right? Anyways, the two new villagers are Tulin and Minu.

When will it be released?
This update will be coming out on the 15th of January 2026.
